Susan Dendtler, LPC
As an undergrad in 2004, I took an elective class called “Family Relationships.” What I thought would be an easy A for a GPA boost spun me onto an entirely different life course toward pursuing a path in counseling. In the past 20 years, I’ve held many different roles in the mental health profession, but the thing that started me off remains my true north: I LOVE working relationships.
These days, you can typically find me working with couples using what many consider to be the gold standard in treatment modalities, Emotionally Focused Therapy. I chose to train and become fully certified in this model because it felt essential to me that if I was going to involved in someone’s marriage or long-term partnership, I needed to REALLY know what I was doing. I wanted to have evidence-based best practices backing me up. To me, it just makes sense—and it really works.

I continue to do individual therapy work, though it is typically through a relational framework. I help support individuals who may not be ready to do couple work, may be coming out of a separation or divorce, or may want to sort through a relational issue.
